Ev Stern's Jazz Workshop

Improve your life with improvisation!

Ev Stern's Jazz Workshop is a community open to musicians of all ages, levels, and abilities who are interested in the art of jazz. Set your goals and design your personalized growth plan with Ev. The Workshop offers a combination of weekly ensembles tailored to your interests, instruments, ability, and schedule, as well as private lessons, performances, jam sessions, concerts, and more.

Ev Stern's Jazz Workshop was created in Seattle in 1994 to help aspiring jazz musicians of all ages, levels, and instruments attain their goals. The Jazz Workshop is organized into 8-week Sessions. At the beginning of each 8-week series we host an Open House Jam Session.

The Open House is an opportunity to meet Ev Stern and other returning and new students and musicians, to hang out, listen to jazz, and jam! After the Open House, Ev takes everyone who signs up for the next 8-week series and places them into a combination of Weekly Jazz Ensembles, Classes, and Lessons according to ability, interests, instruments, and schedule. Many musicians and some Ensembles and Classes continue from one Session to the next.

The Workshop is generally open from 10 am to 10 PM by appointment. Ensembles and Classes are tailored to the players and generally meet weekly for 90 minutes. See the current calendar. We meet at the Music Space in the Maple Leaf neighborhood of North Seattle.
In addition to weekly ensembles and classes, there are a variety of other Jazz activities including Jam Sessions, Gigs, Recording Sessions, Listening Parties (bring your 78's), private/semi-private lessons, field trips, and more! Check out this article in the Examiner titled "Ev Stern's Workshops Produce Results". We also have a piece in Maple Leaf Life.
Ev's workshops also feature special guests and teachers. Local Jazz drum legend D'vonne Lewis teaches and visits often.

Local Soul Singer-Songwriter Darrius Wilcrich makes guest appearances at workshops and teaches his own classes here at Maple Leaf Music Space.
